A Good Day to Slow Down
I still think about that weekend trip to New Orleans because it started out so gently. I had driven over for a spa day and to pick up a few ingredients for a recipe I wanted to try at home. There is something about getting out of Biloxi for a little while that makes the week feel lighter. I had my bag of little treats and fresh ingredients, and I was in that calm mood where everything feels possible.

The Weather Changed Fast
By the time I started heading back toward Mississippi, the sky looked uncertain. I told myself it would probably just be a quick shower, but Gulf weather does not always ask permission. The rain came down harder, the wind picked up, and the road in front of me began to disappear. I could feel my hands tighten on the wheel. I was not in a rush anymore.

Waiting at the Rest Stop
I decided not to push through it. I pulled into a rest stop and stayed in the car while the storm moved across the highway. The rain tapped against the windows, and the world outside looked soft and gray. Instead of feeling annoyed, I just sat there and thought about how quickly a nice day can turn into something that asks for patience.

What the Storm Taught Me
There is something about waiting out weather that puts life into perspective. I thought about the spa day, the warm bag beside me, and the fact that I was safe. I did not need to hurry. I did not need to prove anything to the road or the rain. I just needed to wait until I could see clearly again.
When the storm passed, I drove the rest of the way home more slowly and felt grateful for every familiar turn. Sometimes the best part of a trip is not the destination. It is the moment you remember to take care of yourself and make it home safely. ๐
